An Extreme Adventure
The words « Arctic exploration » evoke a fascinating mix of extreme adventures and unexplored lands. Names like Roald Amundsen, Jean-Louis Étienne, and Alban Michon symbolize discomfort, self-transcendence, and a touch of madness. They encourage us to discover the Great North with our own eyes and, why not, dive into it.
Destination Nunavut
In spring, it’s time to prepare winter coats for an expedition to the Arctic, more precisely Nunavut. This Canadian territory, established in 1999, has been home to the Inuit and their ancestors for over 4,000 years. In Inuktitut, « Nunavut » means « Our land. » This sparsely populated region is the perfect meeting place to immerse ourselves in the ice floe. Beyond making documentaries, I also have the chance to initiate future Arctic divers here.

Reaching the Ice Sea
Starting from early May, the sun shines relentlessly, not setting until mid-August. It is the perfect time to head to one of the six hamlets on Baffin Island. Our journey begins in Ottawa, the Canadian capital, with a stopover in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. Finally, a final flight takes us to Arctic Bay, an isolated place with no road access.
