A few miles from the hustle and bustle of Playa del Carmen, the island of Cozumel, bathed by the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, still retains an air of an undiscovered paradise. It hosts underwater landscapes as rich as they are colorful, waiting to be discovered while drifting with the currents. Bliss within fin’s reach!
Geographical location
Located in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, Cozumel spans approximately 468 km², making it the largest of the three islands off the Yucatán Peninsula, just 19 km from Playa del Carmen. Formerly called « cuzaam luumil » in the Yucatec Maya language, meaning « Land of Swallows, » it now hosts the majority of its population in the city of San Miguel. The rest of the island, practically flat at 14 meters above sea level, is lush and dense.

The Belize Barrier Reef
The reefs of Cozumel are part of the famous Belize Barrier Reef, one of the largest in the world, stretching approximately 1,000 km along the coasts of Yucatán, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. It is the second longest barrier reef in the world, right behind Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
