Undoubtedly, Norway has more than one trick up its sleeve when it comes to diving. Besides orcas, its waters are home to numerous WWII wrecks, kelp forests, soft coral reefs, nudibranchs, and abundant marine life. All this is two hours’ drive north of Bergen at one of Norway’s most renowned dive centers, the Gulen Dive Resort, which won the Tourism Award for the fjord region in 2015, recognizing notably a strong ecological commitment: the club, for instance, has installed underwater trash bins and is also behind new outdoor activities.

Among these activities, Gulen Dive Resort offers ‘wreck safaris’ (8 wrecks in 5 days or 15 wrecks in 8 days), photo safaris, as well as ‘nudibranch safaris’ during which macro enthusiasts will delight in trying to capture the 65 species present on the Gulen reef in their memory cards. But the most astonishing safari is undoubtedly the ‘Periphylla safari,’ which provides the opportunity, only in January, to encounter a surprising jellyfish coming straight from the abyss. In practiceWater temperature: from 2°C in winter to 18°C in summer (on the surface), dry suit in winter, 7 mm or semi-dry suit in summer.
