Cold water diving is attracting more and more enthusiasts, and this trend is also gaining traction in the sports world. Evidence of this is the interest of Arthur Guérin-Boëri, multiple record holder and world champion in freediving, in the challenges presented by extreme cold. Accustomed to temperate pools and the Mediterranean Sea, Arthur decided to step out of his comfort zone to tackle the icy waters of the Scandinavian countries. But to set new records in these extreme conditions, he first had to… break the ice!

A world record under Finnish ice
Two months ago, Arthur Guérin-Boëri attempted a new feat in Finland: to break the dynamic freediving world record under ice in Lake Sonnanen, in the southeast of the country. Result: 120 meters traveled in freediving under the ice, in exactly three minutes. However, this challenge was only the first step of an even more ambitious project: to attempt, in 2022, a new performance in Canada, this time in a simple swimsuit!

For Arthur, this challenge has a triple dimension: achieving an awe-inspiring sporting feat, participating in a scientific study on the effects of cold-water immersion, and raising public awareness about the need to protect polar environments. A multifaceted challenge, reflecting Arthur’s own journey.
