Several years after the announcement of this project, the underwater museum of Marseille is finally coming to life. The artworks are being installed in the bay of Les Catalans. Get your fins, mask, and snorkel ready!https://vimeo.com/460932807
On September 24, its founder, Anthony Lacanaud, and the association Les amis du Musée subaquatique de Marseille announced the upcoming opening of the museum. Ten artworks made of pH-neutral concrete are currently being installed by Seven Seas at a depth of 5 meters and 100 meters from Catalans beach. A true artistic, technical, educational, and environmental feat!
The artworks were created by ten local artists following the common theme of protecting the underwater environment and its fragile ecosystem. When art meets watersports, this underwater museum will also have an important ecological impact, as the artworks will serve as an artificial reef promoting marine life development, similar to other underwater museums around the world. On Catalans beach, a museum reception base will conduct workshops to raise awareness about protecting the marine environment.

The youth of Marseille will also be at the heart of this educational project. The museum will serve as a support for raising awareness about environmental protection and the Septentrion association plans to integrate the sculptures within the context of training students from Lycée des Calanques in 3D photogrammetry and a BTS in Management and Protection of Marine Environments.
The submerged artworks:
