The famous whale room of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco hosts a spectacular immersive setup until the end of 2021. Titled “Immersion,” this groundbreaking exhibition takes you to the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. This unique exhibition is designed to be fully interactive, immersive, and collective. All around visitors and on the floor, an innovative projection system recreates the world’s largest coral ecosystem. 60 species, 250 m² on the floor, 40 video projectors, walls 9 meters high, a total projection area of 650 m²… This exhibition is as majestic and gigantic as this place. Discover a truly immersive underwater spectacle! Combining real and high-quality synthetic images, visitors can interact with the species projected on the walls through their gestures or movements (a school of barracudas alters its course, a giant clam closes…). Divided into two parts: a day cycle where many species interact and a night cycle highlighting bioluminescence as well as hunting scenes; the immersive experience lasts a total of 30 minutes.

Marvel to better protect
Humpback whale, manta ray ballet, fluorescent corals… this exhibition makes this distant underwater world accessible to everyone. A good way to highlight the beauty but also the fragility of this ecosystem. “Immersion” is part of the Oceanographic Museum’s 2020 program entirely dedicated to coral reefs. A whole itinerary has been created throughout the museum’s floors to explore this environment, home to 30% of the world’s biodiversity and yet so threatened.
