author portrait – Alexis Rosenfeld

Portrait of Alexis Rosenfeld, co-author of ‘Coral Reefs’ alongside researcher Serge Planes and actor Lambert Wilson.

Photographer and professional diver, Alexis discovered diving at the age of 8. He has never stopped since, making the underwater world his universe. He spends years traveling and going on expeditions in search of new stories to tell. His journey has allowed him to share in the last expedition of Commander Cousteau in Madagascar, follow much of the Comex saga, and participate in exceptional adventures such as the discovery of the wreck of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s plane. Alexis is published by major media outlets, distributes his work in France through the collective Divergence Images, and internationally through Getty Images.

“ I choose a photograph either because it is going to tell a story, or because I have a
story to tell about this photograph. The notion of time stopping when I hear the
‘click’ immediately takes me into a form of the past. I’ve captured a moment and I have within me
this mark of time. “I remember.” On each of my captions, I start
with this “I remember.” This mark of time has led me to change my perspective on my
profession. I was simply a photographer in a magical world until the day I understood
that the irreversible existed. That all those words that seemed distant to me, like ‘warming’,
‘acidification’, ‘global changes’, were actually today’s reality, and that my
work needed to take a more committed path. That I too had a role to play. We all have
a role to play. »
