The turquoise waters of Mayotte will be at the center of all attention on July 20, 21, and 22 with the occasion of the first Mayotte lagoon festival.
During this weekend, all the cultural and natural riches of the island and its marine depths will be highlighted. Activities, conferences, and screenings around the theme of the sea will be organized to discover or rediscover this territory in the heart of the Indian Ocean. The emphasis will be on enhancement but especially on the preservation of the lagoon, notably through the project of its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This festival is held as part of a Vanilla Islands program in which each island organizes an event showcasing its territory. During 3 days, representatives from Réunion, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and the Seychelles will be present. Michel Madi, director of the Mayotte Departmental Tourism Committee, is pleased with the creation of such a festival: « in February 2018, the island of Mayotte took the presidency of the Vanilla Islands. As a member of the association since 2010, we were keen to propose a strong event highlighting our lagoon. With the creation of this festival, we intend to address both locals and tourists by showing them the incomparable richness of our territory and sparking the desire to come and discover our island. ”Practical information: 1st Mayotte lagoon festival, July 20, 21, and 22, Place de la République, 97600 Mamoudzou.
