On October 13th, the feminization group of the departmental committee of Haut-Rhin invites any woman who has had cancer, and anyone accompanying them, to an introduction to various underwater activities offered by the Federation: scuba diving, apnea, underwater hockey, finswimming, and target shooting. The meeting is scheduled at the Jonquilles pool in Mulhouse starting at 2 PM on Saturday afternoon, everything is free and each participant will receive a welcome gift. Children’s activities are also offered (from 10 years old with parental permission).
Diving, apnea, underwater hockey, finswimming, and target shooting
After a group welcome, a presentation of the different disciplines will be conducted so participants and their families can choose where to start: apnea, diving, target shooting? In apnea, a relaxation workshop, breath work, and body scanning will also be offered to show all the benefits of this discipline, and not just in dynamic apnea.
The goal is to provide each participant with a beautiful memory and, of course, to support them later in resuming an underwater sports activity if some of them fall in love with it during this initiation day. For this beautiful operation, the volunteers of Codep 68 have notably received support from Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération, which provides the Jonquilles pool in Illzach with two pools allowing for various initiations.
Moments of well-being underwater
“In their daily battle against the disease, these women have not stopped fighting, stressing… we want to offer them a moment just for themselves, of « breathing » and well-being underwater, where we feel good, without constraints, free,” explains Olivia Fricker, member of Codep 68 and also vice-president of the national apnea commission of the FFESSM. “This is what we want to share with these women but also with their families, who often also deserve such a moment, in cohesion, to then be able to talk about beautiful, positive emotions shared together. I will obviously intervene as an apnea instructor, with other very involved friends including Anne-Claire Heller, responsible for the feminization within Codep 68, who is a diving instructor and federal doctor, who is well aware of the issue, as well as Céline Bardet, who is also in the group, an initiator of underwater hockey and nurse. We will be accompanied by many volunteer leaders including our Codep president Rémy Heller, who is fully committed to the approach.”
