At the end of August, the AIDA (International Association for the Development of Apnea) is organizing from August 22 to September 2 the Individual World Championships of Apnea in depth on the island of Roatan, Honduras.
In total, 82 athletes from 26 different nationalities will chain dives to nearly 130 meters deep for the most talented among them, in 3 different disciplines: constant weight with fins, without fins et free immersion.

The island of Roatan, west of the Caribbean Sea, offers ideal conditions for competitive apnea: abyssal depths close to the coast, warm water without a thermocline, deep bays to shelter from currents… and a central position for American continent participants, as these annual championships are mostly organized in Europe, alternating by team or individual.

The French team will be well represented, with no less than 13 competitors, 8 men and 5 women aged 21 to 40, accompanied by 2 physiotherapists.

Real chances of medals for the French, who have always performed in all disciplines of this fast-growing sport: if Morgan Bourc’his is expected on the podium in without fins, Rémy Dubern in breaststroke and Stéphane Tourreau in monofin are lurking behind the favorites. Also noteworthy, in this blue-white-red team, a more marked presence of female competitors this year, reflecting the increasingly feminized activity.
