A permanent exhibition – Mediterranean’s Secret Pigments – has just been installed at the port of Bormes-les-Mimosas. Inaugurated this Friday, July 16, it is interactive as a free application allows you to see the presented species animate in 3D.

Mediterranean species living near the seashore or offshore, including grouper, scorpion fish, blenny, dolphin, sunfish, blue shark… are presented through more than 80 photos, forming a path along the quays.

An augmented reality exhibition

This exhibition is permanent, free, entertaining, and, with the help of a dedicated app (Bormes MED 3D, available on iPhone and Android), it takes on an additional interactive dimension thanks to augmented reality. Via the camera function of your smartphone or tablet, a virtual 3D image of the species appears. Additional information associated with the chosen species is also accessible (texts, photos, videos, links…). This technology allows us to provide more information without distorting the exhibition with long texts, it is playful, and therefore can appeal to an audience of all ages and raise awareness more than a simple image.

Inauguration by a renowned figure in the diving community

The marina of the city has for many years had a commitment to raising awareness about the marine and underwater world. A meeting in 2011 with the association Déclic Bleu Méditerranée led to a first exhibition, presented in June 2011 in the presence of Albert Falco, the commander of the Calypso. Ten years later, this new exhibition is inaugurated this Friday, July 16, 2021, by Christian Petron, an underwater filmmaker who notably participated in the filming of the Big Blue and the exploration campaigns of the wreck of the Titanic.

The photos on display are by Déclic Bleu Méditerranée, a Var association of diver photographers whose goal is to raise awareness through images of the richness of biodiversity and the necessary protection of the underwater world, as well as to promote protected marine and terrestrial areas. Its members are regularly awarded in national or international photo contests. Find a portfolio of their images in the Plongez! special edition currently at newsstands.
