Mauritius is recognized as one of the most beautiful destinations for honeymooners and couples seeking romance. Its prime location in the Indian Ocean also makes it a top choice for scuba diving. With its fascinating shipwrecks and rich, diverse marine life, the island offers an idyllic setting for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility.
Scuba Diving in Mauritius
The Indian Ocean, with its shades of blue and green, is a true treasure. Mauritius, alongside Rodrigues and Réunion, forms the Mascarene archipelago. Volcanic in origin and surrounded by a coral reef, the island has several diving areas along its 330 km of coastline.

The Best Diving Sites
In the north of the island, the diving sites are concentrated around Trou-aux-Biches and Grand-Baie, offering underwater landscapes of exceptional beauty. These areas, protected from winds and swells, often guarantee visibility exceeding 20 meters.
From the beach at Trou-aux-Biches, it takes just 10 minutes by boat to reach most of the dive spots. These sites are ideal for beginners and training, while also allowing experienced divers to indulge in their passion for wrecks, marine biology, or photography.
The Wrecks of Trou-aux-Biches Bay
To attract divers, several wrecks have been sunk in Mauritian waters. Among the most famous is the Stella Maru, a Japanese trawler sunk in December 1987, which is now in excellent condition and home to a thriving marine life. Schools of snapper and pufferfish can be easily approached, making each dive memorable.
