Dive#1.2, a short film shot while freediving at Belle-Île-en-Mer

Play of light, close-ups… the images of the short film dive#1.2, filmed by Axel Casters with Ariel Delebecque and set to music by Bertrand Wolff, perfectly highlight the Breton seabeds, and more specifically those of the protected marine area of Belle-Île-en-Mer.

Lighting effects, close-ups… the images from the short film dive#1.2, shot by Axel Casters with Ariel Delebecque and set to music by Bertrand Wolff, perfectly highlight the Breton seabed, particularly those of the Belle-Île-en-Mer marine protected area.

This 12-minute film was shot in freediving on the occasion of the « Underwater Festival, » a festival envisioned within the association Les Tempestaires, with its first edition taking place in 2018 on the island. « This first edition was invented around the work of Jean Painlevé, a pioneer of scientific documentary and underwater imagery, » explains Ariel Delebecque, member of the association, videographer and underwater operator. « It was on this occasion that we had the desire to offer a kind of response… or rather a contemporary « sequel » to his singular inspiration. We too want, through our perspectives, our sensations, to make the marine universe, the one we can discover here in Brittany, palpable.

We shot in freediving because it is already our practice. It allows us to be free, discreet, to be able to spend entire afternoons in five meters of water, and to propose through this film a realistic invitation to the world of the sea. Without a desire for performance, technical prowess, or distant travels.»
To extend this « approach, » the members of the association invited Bertrand Wolff, composer-acoustician, to work with them. On-site he came to immerse his hydrophones and collected his « raw material. » «  The sea dictates its conditions and Bertrand also experienced his sensations, the stormy, rainy days or the moments during which his recordings were scarred by engines or fishing gears – immediate testimonies of « anthrophony » in action » comments Ariel Delebecque. « This short film is a first experience for us, but we continue shooting, our filming equipment is being refined and other projects are coming!«
