When they dive, Sandrine, Alain-Pierre, and Denis explore the mysteries of marine life. As biology enthusiasts, they dedicate themselves to sharing their knowledge and raising awareness among other divers. These volunteer trainers from the ‘Fédé’ explain their approach to us.

A Passionate Commitment: Sandrine’s Journey
« I started diving in 2000, thanks to people who offered me their time. To thank them, I decided to get involved in the association club and within the National Commission for Underwater Environment and Biology (CNEBS) », says Sandrine Sauge-Merle, a scientist at Cadarache in Bouches-du-Rhône. Her first immersions captivated her for « the calm, serenity, and bright colors ». She still recalls her encounter with a yellow seahorse during a night dive. Her curiosity led her to learn more about the fauna and flora she observed.

After each dive, she would flip through her Vigot guide, trying to match images to names, even though the Latin terms were sometimes challenging. For her, « every dive was a new discovery, a new opportunity to learn ». In 2003, she participated in a marine biology workshop with Richard Lion, a national instructor who inspired her. Today, Sandrine is a national instructor in bio and has trained nearly 200 divers.
