Corsica, a fragment of Mediterranean land with a unique scent, is distinguished by its fragrant scrubland and crystalline waters. Its thousand kilometers of coastline, which represent more than half of the French Mediterranean coast, offer a continuous journey from one protected marine area to another.

A Mosaic of Underwater Landscapes

From majestic cliffs to welcoming sandy bays, time-polished rocks to steep canyons, Corsica amazes. Its dive sites, underwater extensions of grand terrestrial landscapes, are equally breathtaking. In water of exceptional clarity, purple gorgonians burst with color, red coral is abundant, and huge groupers coexist with countless brown meagres. Schools of barracudas, amberjacks, and eagle rays complete this living tableau. Diving in Corsica is to explore an authentic, wild, and captivating Mediterranean.

Three Exceptional Protected Marine Areas

Three large protected marine areas safeguard these unique underwater habitats, home to protected species, symbols of Mediterranean biodiversity:

  • The Cap Corse and Agriate Natural Marine Park (Parcu naturale marinu di u Capicorsu è di l’Agriate)
  • The Scandola Nature Reserve
  • The Bonifacio Strait Natural Marine Park

These areas are at the heart of a system that makes the Isle of Beauty a formidable reservoir of life. Other, smaller protected marine areas complement this network, targeting specific zones and species. Numerous Natura 2000 sites at sea, integrated or not within the protected marine areas, reinforce this protective mesh. Among them are the large meadow on the eastern coast, the Revellata peninsula, the Cap Corse plateau, and the Moines islets within the Bonifacio Strait. The objective of the European Natura 2000 marine network is to protect the marine environment, its habitats, and species of community interest, while allowing access to nautical activities.
