Every underwater photographer has, more or less, their area of expertise. Dominique Barray covers a range that goes from the Balssia gasti hidden in the polyps of a gorgonian to the underwater panorama, with perfect mastery. An outstanding diver, number 86 on the list of second-degree federal instructors, he is just as comfortable adjusting your regulator as he is waiting with his camera. The art of photography rests on several assumptions that far exceed photographic technique. You must be a seasoned diver, know the environment at least as well as a budding biologist, and be able to adapt to situations, and the unexpected as well, to capture pixels worthy of the name. Heading out « equipped for macro » and encountering a whale shark can make anyone mutter, surely. No matter! Dominique will focus on its details and be back on board with 100 bars while you’ll have only 0.5 left after trying to catch a jellyfish under the boat, just to bring back something – don’t wonder, it’s been lived. Perfectionist as he is, post-processing holds no secrets for him, and if your screen isn’t calibrated, no worries, he arrives with his probe.
