Garmin unveils the Descent S1 buoy: a major innovation for diving safety and communication
Garmin has just launched the Descent™ S1 buoy, a revolution for the safety and communication of divers and their surface team. Thanks to SubWave™ technology, this connected buoy integrates easily with Garmin dive computers and facilitates real-time tracking of up to eight divers simultaneously. It also allows the exchange of predefined messages with divers equipped with a compatible computer paired with a Descent T2 pressure sensor. Divers can thus stay in contact, know their position relative to the buoy, and receive precise instructions to return safely to the surface.
Features designed for safety and comfort
The Descent S1 buoy offers new features to optimize dive management and reassure both divers and the crew remaining on the boat:
- Guidance to the buoy: On their Descent computer, divers can see in real-time the distance and direction to the buoy, whether it is moored, anchored, or towed during a drift dive.
- Diver-surface messaging: Divers can inform the crew of their position, signal an early return, or communicate their remaining decompression time.
- Extended underwater communication: Members of the same group equipped with compatible Descent computers stay in contact underwater via predefined messages within a range of up to 100 meters.
- Post-dive analysis: At the end of the outing, the divers’ movements are available as a heatmap on the Garmin Dive™ app.

A revolutionary tool for tracking from the surface
The combination of the Descent S1 buoy and the Garmin Dive app offers unprecedented monitoring for the surface crew.
- Remote monitoring: Live tracking of tank pressure, depth, position, and other essential data when using a compatible dive computer and a Descent T2 pressure sensor.
- Automatic alerts: Notification in the event of critical tank pressure drop for rapid intervention.
- Surface-diver messaging: The crew can send predefined messages to the divers to quickly convey instructions or request an early ascent.
- Position tracking: The crew can locate each diver within a 100-meter zone around the buoy thanks to the SubWave network.

Durability and autonomy for extended outings
Designed to withstand all conditions, the Descent S1 buoy weighs only 900 grams and is IPX8 waterproof up to 10 meters deep. Its rechargeable lithium battery offers up to 15 hours of autonomy, making it ideal for diving weekends. The connection with the Garmin Dive app is wireless thanks to Wi-Fi®, and works up to 60 meters away.
Price and availability
The Descent S1 buoy is available now at the suggested retail price of €2,499.99. For more technical information or to discover other products in the diving range, visit the official Garmin.
Note
- Certain messaging functions depend on the dive computer models and the signal quality may vary depending on external factors (surface, swell, diver position, etc.).
