Even for seasoned travelers, locating Halmahera in the vast archipelago of the Moluccas can prove tricky. As the largest island in this region, Halmahera, located in the northern part of the archipelago, is beginning to cautiously open up to tourism. Surrounded by a multitude of volcanic islets and accessible by cruise, it promises unforgettable dives in sites worthy of an Eden, at the heart of the Coral Triangle.

Developing tourism

Tourism in Halmahera is still in its infancy. Few people speak English, and there are almost no dive centers on site, making cruises all the more essential. This isolated region of northern Moluccas houses exceptional dive sites, inaccessible to industrial trawlers, thanks to a local population that only practices fishing for its own needs. This ensures the preservation of majestic and pristine reefs, offering divers an authentic view of marine life.

Fascinating biodiversity

Cruises in this region are limited, but the MS Gaia Love offers a route departing from Ternate, allowing you to discover pristine sites before reaching Sorong via Misool and Raja Ampat. These places are breathtakingly beautiful, with about 650 fish species and 450 coral species—a true paradise for biodiversity lovers. The guides accompanying the divers often joke:  » Great… just too many fish! » »
