A new activity offered since 2015 in the heart of the Trois Vallées area, ice diving in the Lou Lake offers its share of thrills and this in a completely wild setting.A window into another universeExperience a true adventure away from the highest station in Europe. After 40 minutes of snowshoeing or beginner ski touring, guided by an instructor, you arrive at the Lou Lake refuge. Situated in a small valley cut off from time, the site is free from ski lifts and slopes. Warm in the refuge, you put on a suit and state-of-the-art fully waterproof equipment (dry suit, waterproof gloves, face mask), and it’s off for 20 minutes of glacial exploration. Even if it is not classified as extreme, ice diving offers a good adrenaline rush when leaving the outside world to slip under the ice crust. Whether it’s the contact with the water, the play of lights, the race of air bubbles under the surface, or the tempo of your own breathing, you will discover a new world. After the dive, you remove your equipment in the refuge and then ski or snowshoe back down to the alpine chalet Chez Pépé Nicolas whose terrace beckons you. Emotions whet your appetite! In practice
