Inauguration of the « Gaze on the Mediterranean » Exhibition in La Ciotat

The exhibition Gaze on the Mediterranean – Coralligenous Alphabet has been set up in the Domaine du Parc de la Tour in La Ciotat.

The exhibition Regards on the Mediterranean – Coralligenous Alphabet has settled in the Domaine du Parc de la Tour in La Ciotat.

The exhibition Regards on the Mediterranean – Coralligenous Alphabet, is taken from the book of the same name, the second volume of the series dedicated to the Grande Bleue, published by the team of Plongez! magazine and the Rhône Méditerranée and Corse Water Agency. The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of the mayor of La Ciotat, Arlette Salvo, Pierre Boissery, an expert in coastal and Mediterranean waters from the Water Agency, and two of the book’s authors, Nicolas Barraqué and Dominique Barray, in the heart of the Domaine de la Tour park, a former vineyard estate converted into a public garden.

This exhibition marks the opening of one of the largest floating boat shows in Europe, Les Nauticales ! They will open to the public from Saturday and for a week. The exhibition itself will remain in the park for several months, allowing many walkers, tourists, families, and school groups to discover another side of the Mediterranean!

After theAlphabet of Biodiversity, the exhibition and the book associated with it focus on a major Mediterranean ecosystem, the coralligenous.
Surprisingly complex and hosting an extraordinary biodiversity, it is characterized by an abundance of calcareous algae that, through encrustation and accumulation, form truly colorful masses on which a multitude of species can fix, hide, reproduce, each playing their part in its slow formation.
Comparable to tropical coral reefs, the coralligenous is also, beyond its beauty, a true indicator of the state of Mediterranean waters. Fragile, we will have to rely on its resilience capacity to adapt to climate change.
“Discover to better understand, understand to better protect” is the leitmotif that inspired the conception of this book and exhibition.
