A festival for ocean lovers, underwater imagery, and diving, this Hyères-based event grows each year to establish itself as a must-attend event in the region. Dive in! is a partner of this fourth edition which will take place from March 22 to 24 at the Forum du Casino in Hyères (83).
Two personalities from the maritime and underwater world will be the event’s patrons: Sailor Alexia Barrier, who will embark on the Route du Rhum adventure in November, and explorer Alban Michon, who embarked in 2018 on his third expedition, « Arktic « .
As every year, Thursday and Friday mornings are reserved for schools. Approximately 1,000 children from the region can thus discover the underwater world, participate in conferences, workshops, screenings, and be made aware of the protection of the underwater environment through the various associations, institutions, and companies present.
The festival opens its doors to the public starting Friday afternoon. Visitors can discover the fifty exhibitors present at the show and attend conferences (among the speakers Steven Weinberg, Claudia Webert-Gebert, Patrice Bureau, Patrick Louisy, Alban Michon, or Axel Barbaud for Azoth Systems…) and film screenings ( Te Vaanui, the Odyssey of Ismael by Jean-Charles Granjon, CWhat Lies Beneath the Surface by Remi Masson, Legacy, the Lord of the Deep by Patrick Metzle or Mediterranean by Jérôme Espla…).
Underwater imagery is always at the heart of the event, as demonstrated by the five exhibitions presented to the public:
– The first, before even crossing the doors of the Casino forum, is displayed on the gates of the Olbius Riquier garden in Hyères. « Stories of Underwater Images, from the Smallest to the Largest », with images by Dominique Barray.
– Photographer Vincent Truchet presents « Tahiti in Black and White »
– Photographer Greg Lecoeur showcases his shots « A Breath in the Mediterranean »
– Biologist Patrick Louisy introduces « Seahorses, An Extravagant Family »
– Explorer Alban Michon, festival patron, takes you on a journey with « The Polar Worlds »
Finally, as every year, the photo and video contest will reward the best amateur and professional photographers and videographers. A look back at the 2018 winners:
