This weekend more than a hundred mermaids and mermen gathered in the diving pool – aquarium of TODI, in Belgium for the second edition of the « International Mermaid Convention ». This event is organized by the French-Belgian collective Mermates, made up of six mermaids offering underwater performances and various teachings related to their passion.
Nearly 160 participants from around the world (Finland, Israel, United States), donned their colorful fish-tailed mythological creature costumes. Many workshops – dance, posing, makeup, yoga, freediving… – were offered to participants. They were able to spend time with Hannah Mermaid, the first professional mermaid in the world. To access the pool, no glitter, and to wear the silicone costumes, no chemicals were used to avoid poisoning the 5000 tropical fish in the TODI pool.
