As every year for the past 9 years, the association Sub’limage organized, in partnership with the European festival of underwater image of Strasbourg (FEISME), its festival in New Caledonia. For five days, in the heart of the city of Nouméa, numerous works were showcased: 84 large-format photos, 35 thematic series, 6 slideshows, 15 short films, and 7 clips.
Gil Kébaïli was the honorary president of this edition. His experience as a documentary writer-director, specializing in the Pacific region, along with his years of experience with Nicolas Hulot in Ushuaïa Nature made him a dedicated and passionate honorary president.
Throughout this festival, visitors were also engaged with numerous activities: photo contests for the youngest, thematic evenings, conferences, full virtual reality immersions, and information and game booths with partner associations like Sea Shepherd, the Lagoon Aquarium, or the IRD. Visits were also organized aboard the Amborella, New Caledonia’s government ship dedicated to the monitoring of the Coral Sea to better understand the challenges of protecting and studying the Caledonian lagoon.
The works presented were evaluated by the jury based on artistic and technical quality criteria. The rankings awarded the best film prizes in the following categories: slideshow, thematic series, clip, and short film. On the photo side, 3 categories were proposed: wide-angle, macro-proxy, and black and white.Photo Contest
