Fans of Cousteau’s adventures and nostalgic for the era of the first experiments in so-called autonomous diving suits alongside the pioneers of underwater exploration? Rest assured, you won’t have to wait much longer. And it’s at the Cité de la Mer, in Cherbourg, that you need to go. Discover  » The Odyssey, the exhibition  » ahead of the film release «  The Odyssey  » by Jérôme Salle, a biopic about the famous commander Jacques-Yves Cousteau – here is the teaser:

The exhibitionOpening the large reception hall space for free, the Cité de la Mer offers you a dive into the film’s behind-the-scenes before its cinema release on October 12. This is an opportunity to discover the most beautiful large-format images of Lambert Wilson portraying Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a character with multiple passions: filmmaker, inventor, adventurer, and committed man. Being part of the Cousteau generation, Lambert Wilson recalls that for people of his age at the time « Cousteau and the men on the ship were heroes« . Many excerpts from Jérôme Salle’s film  » The Odyssey  » will keep you waiting. The exhibition also reveals the filming’s behind-the-scenes conducted in Croatia, the Bahamas, South Africa, and even Antarctica under extreme conditions.

Another adventurer is also highlighted. It’s François Sarano, a passionate oceanographer diver and an unconditional defender of the oceans, a companion for nearly 15 years of Commander Cousteau and the official stand-in for Lambert Wilson in the film  » The Odyssey « . At the heart of the temporary exhibition, large-format photos and exclusive videos of his latest campaigns (notably the one conducted in spring with the sperm whales) testify to his commitment to protecting the marine environment. Within the association Longitude 181 of which he is the co-founder, François Sarano conducts numerous public awareness operations, notably on the preservation of sharks, dolphins, and also sperm whales.

Jérôme Salle’s film Join the adventure of this exceptional film tracing the life of Commander Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his team. Lambert Wilson (Jacques-Yves Cousteau), Pierre Niney (Philippe Cousteau), and Audrey Tautou (Simone Cousteau) bring to the big screen a chapter of the famous oceanographer’s life, captain of the Calypso and director of the world-renowned documentary « The Silent World » (1955). The filming of Jérôme Salle’s movie took place across 4 continents, including Antarctica, where for the first time a fiction film was shot. The team was able to bring back exceptional images of the ice floes and their inhabitants. It’s no coincidence that this Jérôme Salle movie is titled  » The Odyssey « , as it aims to echo the TV series  » The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau  » (1967-1974) broadcast in France, the United States ( » The Undersea World « ) and Latin America ( » El mundo submarino « ) whose approach was to treat subjects as personalized adventures rather than didactic documentaries.Practical information: Address: Cité de la mer, former transatlantic maritime station, 50100 Cherbourg
