The Similan Islands, a marine national park since 1982, offer a unique experience for divers and nature lovers. Accessible only during the day or through cruises, this archipelago in the Andaman Sea is a true treasure to explore, particularly the famous site of Richelieu Rock.

A Fascinating Geology

The Similan Islands, located along the west coast of Thailand, are primarily composed of granite rocks, formed between 150 and 250 million years ago by tectonic activity. This process allowed magma to rise from the depths, creating protrusions and mountains. Erosion over the centuries has sculpted smooth contours, giving these islands a unique topography that attracts tourists and divers.

The archipelago consists of eleven islands, each protected as a marine national park. Although each island has an official name, they are often referred to by their number, from 1 to 12. Cruises allow exploration of various dive sites, including Ko Surin and Richelieu Rock, which are not numbered.
