On September 1st, the jury met at the congress center of Mandelieu-La Napoule to view all the photos submitted by participants for this 2016 contest. It was open to female and male photographers who did dives with one of the eight professional or associative centers (the Rague Dive Center, la Cigale, Némo Plongée, Plongée passion Mandelieu, Plongée club de Mandelieu, Subaqua Cannes Gazelec, Sylpa Plongée and the Méditerranée Théoule Dive Center) of the territory of the Community of Agglomeration of the Pays de Lérins – C.A.P.L.- partners of this operation and affiliated with the FFESSM. Its purpose was to showcase the richness of the seabeds of the Lerins Sea.
At the end of exploration dives specifically conducted between June 4 and August 20, 2016, participants were free to choose their three best underwater images, whether edited or not. Only one photo per category could be presented to the jury (chaired by Jean de Saint Victor de Saint Blancard, independent photojournalist) which worked to assign a so-called « technical » score according to « C.M.E.L. » criteria (framing, focus, lighting, and readability) and an additional « favorite » score based on the emotion felt when viewing the image.2016 AwardsCategory « Macro-photography »: Marc Leiterer
