Video: the red gorgonian, star of Mediterranean drop-offs

Marine biologist Jean-Georges Harmelin, honorary researcher affiliated with the M.I.O. (Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography) and GIS Posidonia, introduces us to the red gorgonians, which inhabit the northeastern Mediterranean seafloor.

The largest of the Mediterranean gorgonians, the red gorgonian, inhabits shaded rocky drop-offs well exposed to currents. A true delight for divers, it can be seen particularly southeast of the island of Maïre towards the Pharillons, off Antibes on the Enfer de Dante, on the summit of the Langoustier at the Hyères Islands, and also south of Corsica off Porto-Vecchio.
