Le National Sea Center in Boulogne-sur-Mer Nausicaa and the Megaptera association have set up a crowdfunding campaign to tag the world’s largest fish: the whale shark. From €5 donations via the Ulule crowdfunding platform, you can contribute to the study of this emblematic animal: lifestyle, migration, reproduction, to study this species in detail and promote its conservation.
Once placed on a whale shark, the tag will collect various information: depth, temperature, light, humidity (to know when the shark surfaces). During the mission, the collected data can be decoded and analyzed by scientists to track the animal’s behavior and movements.
The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest fish in the world but also one of the least known. Harmless to humans, this giant of the seas feeds mainly on plankton, algae, and microscopic animals, which it absorbs through its wide mouth.CrowdfundingAlso known as « crowdfunding, » this is a financing method that allows everyone to invest in a common project.
