While manta rays thrive in all tropical waters, certain destinations and periods offer ideal opportunities to spot them. From Mozambique to the Maldives, through Indonesia and Polynesia, here are some must-visit spots to dive with these majestic creatures. Whether you are a novice or an experienced diver, from guided encounters to sporty dives, not to mention snorkeling, everything is possible!

In Hawaii: Night Diving

Along the coasts of Hawaii, particularly on Big Island, mantas are plentiful. The population has been surveyed by protection associations, with around a hundred individuals, including about forty that are almost sedentary. In Kona, you can watch up to thirty rays in a feeding frenzy. Night diving, combined with powerful spotlights, attracts plankton and consequently, the rays.

Entry into the water is from a beach, at about 10 meters deep. Kneeling, with lights on, it takes just a few minutes to see the first guests arrive, quickly followed by others. The mantas circle around the divers, offering an unforgettable spectacle, especially between May and October. Dives last about 45 minutes, but you can also watch the feast from the surface with snorkeling gear.
