A year ago, Rocco and Simone (pronounced Simónay), the managers of the Pelagos 2.0 center in Lampedusa, invited us to explore undiscovered World War II wrecks located north of the island. They have a ‘mysterious’ map indicating many points marked by local fishermen, each corresponding to an unexplored wreck. For this expedition, they propose that we sail further south, toward Libya, using their boat as a base camp. We then prepared our equipment and provisions for a few days of adventure.

Our first wreck: a mixed cargo ship
Awakened at 5:00 am, we load all the necessary gear: rebreathers, bail-out, scooters, coolers, and food. An hour later, we set sail. The sun is already up and the air is fresh at the start of June. The sea is calm, and we enjoy the five hours of navigation to rest on the deck before arriving at the first mystery point. Along the way, a turtle swims peacefully on the surface, a good omen! On site, we can’t wait to dive before having lunch. The excitement is at its peak as we will be the first to explore this wreck.
