At the western tip of Brittany, the waters of the Iroise Sea harbor a rich and diverse marine fauna. In addition to its biodiversity, this region is steeped in history, dotted with unique wrecks that bear witness to past wars and shipwrecks caused by difficult weather conditions. We invite you to discover three fascinating wrecks in the roadstead of Brest, challenging dives in sometimes delicate conditions.

Diving conditions in the Iroise Sea

The roadstead of Brest is relatively shallow, barely reaching 60 meters. However, diving becomes technical beyond 20 meters due to the capricious weather, poor visibility below 10 meters, and the often present swell. The currents are strong, with a mixing of about 2 billion cubic meters of water, a third of which is exchanged between the roadstead and the Iroise Sea through a narrow strait of only 1 mile.

Despite these challenges, it is always possible to find diveable sites. Thanks to the preservation efforts of the Armorique Natural Park (PNRA) and the Iroise Marine Natural Park, the local biodiversity is exceptional. It is not uncommon to observe marine mammals such as the bottlenose dolphin and the grey seal, along with a multitude of crustaceans and the largest algae field in France.
